What is the Arlo Smart Alarm Detection feature?

The Alarm Detection feature notifies you in the Arlo app when an Arlo camera hears a smoke and/or carbon monoxide (CO) detector’s alarm. Rich notifications allow you to see alerts from your lock screen that include images of what your camera recorded. Your Arlo camera records until activity stops or for a fixed length of time. You can navigate to the Arlo app Library to view the clip that generated the alarm notification.

You can enable Alarm Detection when you have an Arlo Smart subscription. For more information about Arlo Smart, visit What are the available Arlo subscription plans and how much cloud recording is available?.

FAQ

  1. What devices are compatible with the Alarm Detection feature?
Alarm Detection is available only on Arlo Pro, Pro 2, and Ultra cameras. Alarm detection isn’t available on Arlo wired, Baby, or Go cameras.
  2. Where should I place my Arlo camera for the Alarm Detection feature to work best?
Place your Arlo camera 2 feet or less from your smoke or CO alarm to test if it is compatible with alarm detection.
If you would like to test whether you can place your Arlo device more than 2 feet from your compatible smoke or CO alarm, visit How do I test my Arlo device with my smoke and carbon monoxide detectors?.
When you determine where to place your Arlo camera, we recommend that you aim the camera toward the area of highest interest so that you can investigate further if you get a smoke/CO alarm notification.
  3. What kind of alarms can the Alarm Detection feature detect?
The Alarm Detection feature recognizes these alarms:
    • Smoke detectors with industry-standard T3 alarms (three intermittent beeps, followed by a period of silence).
    • Carbon monoxide (CO) detectors with industry-standard T4 alarms (four intermittent beeps, followed by a period of silence).
The Alarm Detection feature doesn’t detect alarms with other patterns or non-standard T3 or T4 patterns. Consult the instruction manual or other documentation that came with your alarm to confirm that it emits an industry-standard T3 or T4 pattern.
For more information, visit How do I know if my smoke or carbon monoxide detector emits a T3 or T4 alarm pattern?.
  4. Can I enable the Alarm Detection feature on more than one Arlo camera?
Yes, but your Arlo camera must be within range of your alarm, and the alarm must emit an industry-standard T3 or T4 alarm pattern.
