Safe Handling and Usage Guidelines for Arlo Rechargeable Batteries
Last updated: 08.01.2025
Warnings for Batteries, Battery Packs, and Chargers Used with Arlo Products
A. Counterfeit/Non-Arlo approved Batteries and Battery Packs
To ensure optimal safety and performance, only use genuine Arlo batteries, battery packs, and chargers. Unapproved batteries, battery packs or chargers present a serious risk of battery fire, explosion, battery leakage, and other product hazards. Many 3rd party suppliers claim Arlo compatibility yet have not actually tested or confirmed compatibility and safety.
- Do not use counterfeit batteries or batteries not approved by Arlo; such batteries can
- develop internal shorts and may pose a fire or burn hazard.
- have insufficient built-in fault and heat protection, which Arlo batteries contain for added safety.
- have inferior runtime and overall performance.
- damage your Arlo products and constitute a safety hazard (e.g. cause fires, burns, and injury).
- void your Arlo warranty.
- Do no purchase batteries from online auctions and other marketplace websites, as these are known sources of counterfeit and inferior 3rd party batteries.
B. For all Batteries and Battery Packs Used with Arlo Products
- Do not use the battery or battery pack for anything other than its intended purpose.
- Do not use a battery or battery pack if its case appears damaged, swollen, or compromised. Examples of conditions that may indicate a compromised battery or battery pack include leaking, odors, dents, corrosion, rust, cracks, swelling, melting, and scratches.
- Do not disassemble, crush, puncture, or damage external contacts.
- Do not expose the battery or battery pack to fire or temperatures greater than 60°C (140°F).
- Do not place the battery or battery pack next to areas that may become hot (like a space heater, cooking surface, cooking appliance, iron, radiator, or fireplace) or next to flammable materials (like gasoline or certain clothing items).
- Do not get the battery or battery pack wet. Even though it might dry and appear to operate normally, the circuitry can slowly corrode and defeat the safety circuitry.
- Do not insert the battery or battery pack backwards into the product.
- Make sure that the Arlo battery compartment is empty and free of any moisture or loose debris before inserting the battery.
- Handle the battery or battery pack with care. Dropping it, especially on a hard surface, might cause damage. If you suspect damage to the battery or battery pack or the Arlo product, replace it.
- Keep the battery or battery pack away from children.
- Follow the directions in the Arlo Quick Start Guide and in the Arlo Product User Manual.
- Follow local waste and recycling laws & guidelines to dispose of used batteries or battery packs.
C. Additional Safety Instructions for Arlo Wire-Free Cameras Using Disposable/Non-Rechargeable Batteries

- Certain Arlo products, such as early versions of the Arlo Wire Free HD Security Camera, use non-rechargeable batteries or ONLY a Tenergy rechargeable battery, as described below.
- Other than the Tenergy batteries described above, the use of any rechargeable batteries with Arlo Wire-Free cameras is expressly prohibited by Arlo, as such batteries may pose a fire or burn hazard or damage your camera.
- Always replace all batteries at the same time with batteries of the same type purchased at the same time from the same manufacturer and load batteries in the correct position.
- Only use the non-rechargeable batteries supplied with your Arlo camera, or non-rechargeable batteries from Tenergy, Panasonic®, Energizer®, or Duracell®.
